Clark Family of Groton, Vermont papers, 1851-1954.

This collection includes photocopies of bible records, genealogical notes, correspondence and tintype photographs relating to the family of Dr. Benjamin Franklin Clark of Groton, Vermont. The correspondence is with Waldo, F. Glover, author of Mister Glover's Groton : The Chronicle of Groton, Vermont from 1789 to 1978, and the collection was gathered in response to Waldo Glover's requests for genealogical information on the Clark family. In addition, the collection includes four Civil War letters written by Thomas Jefferson Burnham. The letters date from February 14, 1863 to June 19, 1864 and contain information on camp life and battles, including Petersburg and the second battle of Fredericksburg. He also includes sketches. The collection also includes the Civil War recollections of Dr. Seth N. Eastman, an 1851 broadside for a ladies picnic and a 1901 publication entitled "Groton and Ryegate, Vermont."

Seth N. Eastman, the son of Bernard and Hannah (Weed) Eastman, was born in Topsham, Vermont on August 4, 1843. He enlisted in Company B, Sixth Vermont Regiment on September 26, 1861. He was wounded in the leg at Savage's Station on June 29, 1862 and was taken prisoner. He was sent to Libby Prison and then to Belle Isle, and was paroled on and discharged October 28, 1864.
